ACS (Independent) Marks its 10th Year of IBDP Implementation on a High Note

Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) students received their results for the November 2016 International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Examination at noon today in school. The 417 students were part of the 1,849 students in Singapore who took the examination last November.

The school’s average total score was 41.82 points, on par with its 2015 cohort (41.84 points). 347 ACS (Independent) students (83.2%) scored 40 points and above, of which 48 attained the maximum score of 45 points. This is the highest number of perfect scores since the school introduced the IB Diploma Programme in 2006.

The Class of 2016 was active in community outreach. In May 2016, the cohort initiated “Busking for Change” where 130 performances were staged at Orchard Road to raise funds and awareness for the Singapore Mental Health Association. Individual students were also involved in Project Happy Day, Reading Programmes (BLESSED) and migrant workers outreach. It was also an excellent year in sports when the school achieved a record of four grand slams in Cricket, Swimming, Tennis and Rugby, with the A Division teams contributing 5 Golds, 1 Silver and 5 Bronzes and 4 fourth-placed finishes.

Principal, Winston Hodge congratulated the students on their results. He said, “We have implemented the IBDP for 10 years now and have found that its holistic and broad-based approach cultivates in our students the values, instincts and skills necessary for the future. The introduction of the IBDP in national schools has added to the diversity of education pathways in Singapore and we are grateful for the dedicated effort of our students and their teachers, and the support of parents and our stakeholders, the Ministry of Education and the International Baccalaureate organisation.

But most important, we thank God for his blessings and faithfulness.  We pray that our students will continue to use what they have learned to be a blessing to others.”

‘Those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy.’  Psalm 126:5

Much sowing has been done by our students, teachers, and indeed the wider ACS (Independent) community who have faithfully supported our school over the years.

We are grateful to the Board of Governors, the Board of Management, the ACSOBA, the Methodist Church, MOE, parents and all our well-wishers for their advice, support and encouragement.

Above all, we are grateful to God from whom all blessings flow.
